Pnm-25: The Correlation Between Hemotocrit of the First Trimester of Pregnancy with Gestational Diabetes

Background: Early diagnosis of gestational diabetes is one of the most important applications of taking care of during pregnancy. The current study was done to find the correlation between hemotocrit in the first trimester of pregnancy with gestational diabetes in women who referred to Milad Hospital in Tehran in 2009-2010. Materials and Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted on 700 pregnant women in the first trimester of pregnancy, selected by convenience sampling. The prenatal tests were performed in Milad Hospital and the results were recorded. Then samples were followed until delivery. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 18, P-value< 0.05, statistical tests of chi-square, kruskal Wallis, one way ANOVA, ROC curve and relative risk. Results: The highest percentage of research group suffering from gestational diabetes were in group hemotocrit of≥ 38%. There was a statistical significant correlation between the surface hemotocrit during the first trimester of pregnancy and gestational diabetes (p<0.001). Relative risk for development of gestational diabetes (RR=3.12, 95% CI=1.59-6.1).Hemotocrit of≥ 38, the sensitivity of 71%, specification of 52%, the surface under the curve of 67%, the positive prediction value of 12/05% and the negative prediction value of 95/90%. Conclusion: The existence of high hemotocrit in the first trimester of pregnancy can be a predicting factor for gestational diabetes
